It is customary for Vietnamese to first let the elder eat and then the youngest.

Etiquette

 

In Vietnam they mostly use chopsticks to eat and spoons for soup. chopsticks should never be placed upright in a bowl, as it brings bad luck. They should either be side by side beside the bowl or on top of it.
